How PELTO Health Partners grew since 2023

Practice Management

Since forming in 2023, PELTO Health Partners has grown its network and leadership across the country.

PELTO, which stands for Physician Empowered Leadership of Transformational Organizations, began with founding groups Durham, N.C.-based EmergeOrtho, Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy and Seattle-based Proliance Surgeons. The groups maintain their independence, and the platform doesn't rely on external private equity.

Last year PELTO added Wayne Weil, MD, to its board of directors. He's an orthopedic surgeon at Proliance specializing in elbow, wrist and hand surgery and has worked with the practice for 18 years.

And in June PELTO made its first new partnerships with Olympia (Wash.) Orthopaedic Associates and Cincinnati-based OrthoCincy.

"I think one of our biggest accomplishments this year is just proving that we can do this," Ed Hellman, MD, president and board chair of OrthoIndy, told Becker's in February. "We have very big practices who are in diverse parts of the country in very different markets, yet we're able to get together and put aside our differences and focus on what it is that we can do together, how we can learn from each other, how we can benefit from each other's experiences to improve our situations in our own individual markets, and that's been really rewarding."
