The Pediatric Orthopedic Center in Cedar Knolls, N.J., became the first pediatric-only orthopedic practice in its region to add the Bear implant for ACL restoration.
Patients as young as 10 will be able to undergo the procedure, according to a July 18 news release. Joshua Strassberg, MD, and David Lin, MD, performed the practice's first Bear procedure on a 15-year-old patient.
The Bear implant reattaches the ACL tear instead of removing and excising it. The implant allows the patient's own blood to heal and reattach the ACL.
