Neurosurgeon Kevin Foley, MD, was named chief medical officer of True Digital Surgery, the company said Sept. 17.

True Digital Surgery develops 3D digital microscopy and intelligent surgical technologies for spine, neurosurgery and ENT procedures. The role was newly created, and Dr. Foley will advise the company on its product roadmap and enabling technology, according to a news release.

Dr. Foley is chair of Semmes Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute in Memphis, Tenn., and he holds 180 U.S. patents. He is also a professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.

"I've been associated with True Digital Surgery and its predecessor TrueVision Systems since 2008 and have seen its promise fulfilled of advancing surgical visualization to benefit doctors, patients and hospitals," Dr. Foley said in the release. "TDS' proprietary technology continues to impress, and I've seen firsthand the increasing adoption rate of exoscopes by surgeons and medical facilities as they transition away from traditional analog microscopes."
