Globus Medical exec expects to remain leader in spine robots as competition grows

Globus Medical's spine robot cases grew in 2022, and the company is working on more applications, according to a Feb. 21 fourth quarter earnings call.

Globus Medical in the second quarter of 2022 launched the Excelsius3D, a spinal imaging system compatible with the ExcelsiusGPS navigation system.

"We continue to see increased interest in placements with significant international gains of ExcelsiusGPS in [Europe, the Middle East and Africa] and the U.K. that we feel will lead to future implant pull-through and strong market share gains," CEO Dan Scavilla said, as transcribed by Motley Fool. "Robotic procedures continued to accelerate, growing 25 percent for the full year and exceeding 43,000 robotic procedures performed to date."

Mr. Scavilla also addressed questions about Stryker's plans for a spine robot in 2024 and said he expects Globus Medical to remain a leader in the market.

"We've been talking continuously about our development of the ecosystem of multiple things that all fit together," he said. "We've talked about our procedural applications from pre-op planning through to post-op data and feedback loops. All of those items were well ahead of the curve. We're pushing out. We're driving. That will not only keep us relevant but actually keep us as a leader here. Competition will come as natural. They're coming because of our success, and we're going to continue to innovate."
