Dave Anderson, vice president and General Manager of Enabling Technologies at medical device company Medtronic, reveals how the Mazor X Stealth surgical robot can improve spine surgery outcomes, according to The Robot Report.
Five key insights:
1. Mazor X Stealth enables the surgeon to visualize and plan the procedure beforehand and execute with the robot's assistance during surgery.
2. The robot automatically moves positions so the surgeon is able to view the pedicle screw on-screen and execute the planned placement.
3. Medtronic eyes future advancements in bone-cutting and disc removal.
4. The company is aiming to offset the cost of the robot by helping surgeons reduce operating room time by 40 percent and decreasing total procedural costs by 10 percent.
5. Mr. Anderson reported interest in the technology is high, but they are still in the evaluation stages and there is room for growth.
