spine

From new programs and procedures to changing outlooks on the surgery, here are five notes on sacroiliac joint fusion to know:

  1. "The SI joint fusion groundswell has leveled off quite a bit in the past four to five years. While we cannot replace this joint, I think more interesting companies will come to the fore with simpler techniques and likely integrated with image guidance out of the box," Brian Gantwerker, MD, of the Craniospinal Center of Los Angeles, told Becker's on his outlook for sacroiliac joint fusion.
  2. At least nine SI joint fusion-related devices and technologies cleared with 510(k) approval in 2023.
  3. Aurora Spine launched its SiLO TFX minimally invasive sacroiliac joint fixation system, which can be used to treat sacroiliac joint disruptions, degenerative sacroiliitis and other conditions.
  4. Genesys Spine launched the SIros O transfixing sacroiliac joint fusion system, which is the third SI joint system offered by the company and can be used to treat conditions such as degenerative sacroiliitis and sacroiliac joint disruption.
  5. Hakeem Shakir, MD, of OU Health in Oklahoma City, completed the first robot-assisted sacroiliac joint fusion using Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS in Oklahoma.
