Orthopedic Sports Medicine

From partnerships to team leadership, here are five updates in sports medicine from the last month:

1. The New York Mets appointed orthopedic surgeon Lawrence Gulotta, MD, as the team's head orthopedist.

2. Paul McCrory, PhD, is facing additional allegations of plagiarism from The British Journal of Sports Medicine.

3. Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush is partnering with the Chicago White Sox. The multiyear agreement designates Rush as the team's official orthopedic provider.

4. Marc Galloway, MD, received his second Ohio Team Physician Award from the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association.

5. Two professional athletes decided to forgo surgery in favor of stem cell and platelet-rich-plasma injections. Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns had stem cell treatment and platelet-rich plasma injections in his knees, left ankle, left wrist and right finger. The Philadelphia Phillies' Bryce Harper had a PRP shot in his right elbow.
