ChatGPT spotted and diagnosed a pediatric patient's tethered cord syndrome that was missed by 17 specialists, People reported Sept. 12.

The patient began experiencing chronic pain starting at the age of 4, the report said. His family saw 17 specialists over three years.

Initially, an orthodontist thought the boy's palate was too small. When he stopped growing, physicians speculated on issues including migraines and sinus cavities.

His mother ran his symptoms and MRI notes through ChatGPT, and the artificial intelligence software suggested the spine condition. A neurosurgeon later confirmed the condition, and the boy had surgery to treat it.
