The Toronto Maple Leafs, at $2.8 billion, are the most valuable team in the National Hockey League for the first time since 2014, according to a Dec. 14 report from Forbes

Even though they have not won the Stanley Cup since 1967, Forbes values the Maple Leafs at $2.8 billion, $150 million more than the New York Rangers, who held the top spot for eight straight years. 

Forbes valuations are enterprise values and include the economics of each team's current arena deal but not the value of the real estate itself. Revenue and operating income are adjusted for revenue sharing and are net of arena revenue that goes toward arena debt service. Read more about its methodology here

Here's who provides care for the 10 most valuable NHL teams of 2023: 

1. The Toronto Maple Leafs, worth $2.8 billion, are cared for by head orthopedic surgeon John Theodoropoulos, MD, who is an active staff member of the division of orthopedic surgery of the department of surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital and Women's College Hospital in Toronto. 

2. The New York Rangers, worth $2.65 billion, are cared for by senior medical adviser Bryan Kelly, MD. Dr. Kelly is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic procedures at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery. 

3. The Montreal Canadiens, worth $2.3 billion, are cared for by head orthopedic surgeon Thierry Pauyo, MD, who is the medical director of the pediatric sports medicine program at Shriners Children's Canada in Montreal. 

4. The Los Angeles Kings, worth $2 billion, are cared for by Frank Petrigliano, MD, an associate professor of clinical orthopedic surgery and chief of the Epstein Family Center for Sports Medicine at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. 

5. The Boston Bruins, worth $1.9 billion, are cared for by head team physician and orthopedist Peter Asnis, MD. Dr. Asnis specializes in knee and shoulder sports injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. 

6. The Chicago Blackhawks, worth $1.87 billion, are cared for by team physician orthopedic surgeon Michael Terry, MD. Dr. Terry also works for the athletics department at Northwestern University in Chicago. 

7. The Edmonton Oilers, worth $1.85 billion, do not have team surgeon information available. 

8. The Philadelphia Flyers, worth $1.65 billion, are cared for by Gary Dorshimer, MD, an internal medicine physician at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. 

9. The Washington Capitals, worth $1.6 billion, are cared for by orthopedic surgeons including sports medicine specialist John Klimkiewicz, MD, and orthopedic and sports medicine specialist Steven Svoboda, MD.  

10. The New York Islanders, worth $1.55 billion, are cared for by Brian Neri, MD, an orthopedist at NYU Langone Ambulatory Care in East Meadow, N.Y.
