Partnership aims to bring 3D-printed cast to more orthopedic practices

Orthopedic

ActivArmor and 3D printer Fusion3 are working together to bring 3D-printed, waterproof, plastic custom casts directly to healthcare providers nationwide.

Physicians and therapists can prescribe the 3D-printed casts for breaks, sprains, carpal tunnel syndrome and Charcot foot, the companies said.

ActivArmor's casts are the only sanitizable 3D casts on the market, and they allow patients to wash their hands during wear, 3D Printing Media Network, reported July 26.

They are also fully customizable, made to fit each patient and their surgical needs.

The 3D casts are available in a handful of clinics around the country, but ActivArmor and Fusion3 said they are hoping to make them more widely available. It plans to offer "a complete in-house, on-demand 3D fabrication capability to hospitals and orthopedic clinics," according to 3D Printing Media Network.

ActivArmor and Fusion3 first partnered in 2016, with Fusion3 printing most of ActivArmor's in-house medical supplies.
