Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital recently received a $2.5 million donation to help treat COVID-19 patients and other infectious diseases.
Five things to know:
1. The donation was made by Candy and Eddie DeBartolo, the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers.
2. The funds will go toward developing a long-term COVID-19 unit at the hospital.
3. The unit will include negative pressure isolation rooms, ventilators and other equipment.
4. In December, the DeBartolo family also donated $5 million in honor of orthopedic surgeon Thomas Bernasek, MD, who serves on the hospital's board.
5. A timeline is yet to be set for the hospital's COVID-19 unit.
