Cohere Porous PEEK, smooth PEEK or structural allograft for spinal fusion? 4 findings

A new study published in the Journal of Spine & Neurosurgery examines NuVasive's proprietary Cohere Porous PEEK implant for anterior cervical discectomy and fusion.

 

Study authors examined 167 patients who underwent surgery for degenerative disc disease using the Cohere Porous PEEK, structural allograft or smooth PEEK for the interbody space. Study authors found:

1. Patients who received Cohere demonstrated clinical improvements, including better preoperative scores and better outcomes than other treatments, even at 12 months after surgery.

2. By six weeks after surgery, the Cohere patients reported improvement in neck disability index scores. Patients with the smooth PEEK reported improvements at three months after surgery and the structural allograft patients improved by six weeks after surgery.

3. The patients with Cohere implants showed statistically significant improvements over baseline two weeks after surgery and maintained the improvement.

4. Cohere Porous PEEK technology has a 3D porous architecture to encourage bone in-growth as well as stabilization and radiolucency. The technology has more than 10 years of scientific research backing it.
