Alphatec commercially releases 1st of 6 titanium spinal fusion systems: 4 key notes

Surface Technology

Alphatec commercially released an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion system.

Four notes:

1. Alphatec has made the IdentiTI-C Porous Titanium Interbody Implant System commercially available in the U.S. The implants are 60 percent porous, designed with the intent to enhance intraoperative and postoperative imaging clarity.

2. The company began evaluating the product in August 2018 and expects to introduce five other IdentiTi implant systems during the remainder of the year.

3. Alphatec aims to target surgeons that prefer titanium implants with the new systems, which will complement its PEEK implants. "ATEC's IdentiTi porous titanium has an architecture that is conductive to new bone growth and a structural consistency that lends predictability to its mechanical behavior," said Paul Sawin, MD, of Orlando Neurosurgery. "Because it is 60 percent porous, the stiffness is similar to the surrounding bone, and the imaging characteristics with x-ray, CT and MRI are excellent."

4. The system's instrumentation is intuitive and low profile, designed with the surgeon experience in mind.
