Sports medicine society green lights diversity program

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

The first diversity and inclusion program at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine has been unanimously approved by its board of directors.

The program underlines the importance of cultural competency in creating a healthcare system "that is safe, inclusive and equitable for the broad range of identities in the athletic community," according to a Nov. 24 news release.

Joel Boyd, MD, adjunct assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, will chair the task force.

AOSSM President-elect Kurt Spindler, MD, will also serve on the task force to ensure a direct line of communication with leadership.
