Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Eight orthopedic surgeons recently treated professional athletes:

Evan Ellis, MD, surgically repaired the torn left labrum of Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Collins.

Michelle Carlson, MD, repaired a ligament in the right thumb of Brooklyn Nets guard Caris LeVert. Dr. Carlson also repaired the right ring finger of Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner.

Lyle Cain, MD, announced that surgery was scheduled for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who dislocated his right hip during a game. Another surgeon performed the operation.

Jeffrey Dugas, MD, repaired the torn rotator cuff and labrum in WWE wrestler Yanbo Wang's shoulder. Dr. Dugas also performed a primary revision procedure on the left elbow of former Los Angeles Dodger and current free-agent pitcher Rich Hill.

Patrick Connor, MD, performed arthroscopic surgery on the left shoulder of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin at Charlotte (N.C.) Surgery Center.

Claude Moorman III, MD, performed knee surgery on Baltimore Ravens center Matt Skura, which will keep him out for the rest of the season.

After being treated for elbow inflammation, Red Sox ace Chris Sale was given clearance from James Andrews, MD, to begin throwing again. In August, Mr. Sale received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left pitching elbow. He visited Dr. Andrews for a follow-up evaluation in late November.

Dharmesh Vyas, MD, PhD, surgically repaired lacerated tendons in the left ankle of Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin.
