"Mindfreak" star Criss Angel, 51, will undergo shoulder surgery in early 2020 to repair a torn rotator cuff, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

What you should know:

1. Mr. Angel has been receiving platelet-rich plasma injections with steroids to accelerate the healing of this torn rotator cuff, as well as undergoing daily physical therapy with Neal ElAttrache, MD.

2. Dr. ElAttrache, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles, previously performed shoulder surgery on Mr. Angel in 2014.

3. Mr. Angel's "Mindfreak" show is physically demanding; he performs 75 illusions in 90 minutes. The show involves a myriad of acrobatic routines, including an aerial straitjacket escape.

4. The illusionist has cancelled 32 nighttime performances to avoid further strain. However, his show is expected to run through 2024 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
