A former professional football player is filing a lawsuit against a prominent orthopedic surgeon and his practice, alleging the athlete's career was cut short by an injury that required surgery. He alleges during the procedure, he sustained nerve and muscle damage, according to Sports Illustrated.

1. The athlete, former NFL player Sharrif Floyd, alleges in the lawsuit that in 2016 he underwent an arthroscopic knee surgery performed by James Andrews, MD, with an expected recovery of three to four weeks. However, Mr. Floyd did not return to play.

2. After the surgery, Mr. Floyd was placed on the non-football injury list, which he contends had an impact on his career.

3. Mr. Floyd is seeking $180 million in his lawsuit, estimating that is what he would have made in his professional football career if he hadn't incurred the nerve and muscle damage. The payment sought is based on the compensation top players of a similar position make during their careers, according to the report.

4. Mr. Floyd previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, but he is no longer on an NFL team.
