A Stryker device and a Vertos Medical device will see a Medicare reimbursement boost for spine procedures in 2021.

CMS granted Stryker's SpineJack transitional pass-through payment  status, which provides added payments for new devices that show a significant clinical improvement over existing technologies.

The TPT payment will provide outpatient facilities with incremental Medicare payment for SpineJack for up to three years. The implantable fracture reduction system is Stryker's 11th device to receive TPT status since 2016.

CMS also granted SpineJack with the new technology add-on payment in September, which provides additional payment in the hospital inpatient setting.

Vertos Medical's Mild lumbar spinal stenosis procedure will see its average ASC reimbursement increase 41 percent next year in recognition of the cost of the device associated with the procedure.

The procedure removes a major cause of stenosis through a tiny portal and requires no implants, general anesthesia or stitches.
