The first procedures with Orthofix's Firebird SI fusion system were recently completed by orthopedic spine surgeon Justin Hall, MD.

Three things to know:

1. The 3D-printed titanium device features a porous mid-shaft area to promote bone growth.

2. The minimally invasive procedure with the Firebird system requires inserting two to four screws across the sacroiliac joint to stabilize it during spinal fusion.

3. Dr. Hall implanted the device in the first patients at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus, Miss.
