Neurosurgeons at King's College Hospital in London, England, recently removed a tumor from a patient's brain while she was playing the violin, the Independent reports.
Surgeons performed a craniotomy while anesthetists monitored the patient during the awake procedure.
The patient was diagnosed with the brain tumor in 2013 following a seizure during a concert. Despite radiotherapy sessions, the tumor swelled, and the patient decided to undergo surgery
To ensure parts of the brain responsible for fine movement did not become damaged, the medical team opted for an awake surgery.
King's College Hospital performs about 400 surgeries to remove brain tumors per year, including several awake procedures for language tests, according to the Independent.
