Neurosurgeon named chief medical officer of UPMC-managed hospital in China

Neurosurgeon James Wang, MD, will be chief medical officer of Chengdu Wanda UPMC Hospital in China.

The hospital has more than 500 beds and is the first in China to be modeled and managed by UPMC, according to a Sept. 14 news release. Dr. Wang will help build multiple centers of excellence at the hospital and hire physicians from China, the U.S. and Europe.

He earned his medical degree from Beijing Medical University in China and a master's degree in neurosurgery from Beijing Capital Medical College. He had additional education at U.S. universities including The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

"Dr. Wang's clinical expertise and his leadership experience make him exceptionally well-suited for this role," Randy Jernejcic, MD, CEO of Chengdu Wanda UPMC Hospital, said in the release. "His experience establishing a world-class physician team will help ensure the Chengdu hospital will provide the best of Eastern and Western medicine to our patients."
