AnyPlus MIS System from GS Medical Systems. The minimally invasive AnyPlus MIS System for spine surgery has a self-tapping threaded design. The system has ergonomically designed instrumentation for a true percutaneous approach. The system can reduce blood loss, operative time and postoperative pain. There is a unique double-locking system with a washer at the screw base for a secure screw-rod interface fit for proper alignment.

 

AVATAR Minimally Invasive Spinal System from Life Spine. AVATAR MIS System is a cannulated pedicle screws system inserted over a guide wire, designed to minimize muscle and tissue trauma. The system includes multiple rod insertion methods, such as muscle splitting and true percutaneous surgery. The expanded tabs provide rigid connection to instrumentation and there is a reducer that allows up to 20 mm of rod reduction. This was the second addition to the company's CENTRIC MIS Technologies suite.


 
AxiaLIF Plus System from TranS1. The AxiaLIF Plus System is designed for reproducible anterior retroperitoneal presacral access route to the L5-S1 vertebral bodies. The instrumentation is designed with the standard of care for fusion principles, distraction and stabilization of the anterior lumbar column. There have been more than 14,000 AxiaLIF procedures performed in the United States and 90 peer-reviewed publications that show safety, efficiency and biomechanics of the procedure.


 
Avaz Surgical. Avaz Surgical is a technology platform based on high frequency quantitative ultrasound imaging. Using the technology, surgeons can analyze ultrasound images in real-time to identify tissue. The 99.9 percent accurate technology aims to help surgeons perform lateral transpsoas surgery independent of anesthesia, that is, with or without anesthesia.

 

BoneBac Interbody System from ThompsonMIS. The BoneBac Interbody System has a narrow shaped nose for easier insertion into a collapsed disc and allows direct graft injection while the inserter is still attached. The product includes two patents completed and five patents pending. The system restores disc height using insert-and-rotate capabilities.

 

BoneScalpel MIS system from Misonix. The new BoneScalpel MIS system is designed for limited access and visibility in minimally invasive procedures. It offers superior control in retractor and tube-based procedures for precise bone cutting while sparing soft tissue and neural structures. It aims to prevent blood loss and reduce hand fatigue for the surgeon. It also offers a large amount of viable autograft bone compared to shavers or burrs.

 

Capstone PEEK Spinal System from Medtronic. The system is intended for use during posterior lumbar interbody fusion or transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion. The device features convex-shaped implants that are designed to fit patient anatomy and to allow for more accurate sizing. The Capstone system also features teeth on the surface to reduce likelihood of expulsion. The system can be used in open procedures as well as MIS procedures.

 

coflex Interlaminar Stabilization from Paradigm Spine. The coflex Interlaminar Technology is an interlaminar stabilization device for one- or two-level lumbar stenosis from L1-L5 in skeletally mature patients. The device is implanted midline between adjacent lamina of one or two contiguous lumbar motion segments. The device is designed for shorter operating room time and hospital stays.

 

DIVERGENCE Stand Alone Interbody Cage from Medtronic. The DIVERGENCE Stand Alone Interbody Cage features an all-in-one fusion device with internal screw fixation, allowing for maximum distance from the adjacent level disc. The device also incorporates divergent screw technique, which reduces retraction and incision. The device is intended for the treatment of anterior cervical interbody fusion procedures in adult patients with cervical disc disease at one level from C2-C3 to C7-T1. The DIVERGENCE screws feature a cortical cancellous thread design to maximize bone screw purchase.

 

DTRAX Spinal System from Providence Medical Technologies. The DTRAX Spinal System is a set of single-use disposable surgical instruments that aims to provide tissue-sparing access to the spine. Specific devices in the system include an access chisel, decortication trephine and bone graft tamp. The instruments are designed for spinal interbody or intrafacet insertion of a bone allograft. Providence Medical Technology obtained a CE Mark for its DTRAX Spinal System in 2015.

 

Endoskeleton Next Generation nanoLOCK Surface Technology by Titan Spine. The surface technology used in spinal fusion is intended to establish an osteogenic response. In contrast to surfaces composed of PEEK or smooth titanium, Titan Spine's surface combines macro, micro and cellular levels for a blend of textures. The technology is designed for implant stability and promoting natural BMP production. The Endoskeleton Next Generation nanoLOCK Surface Technology furthers this osteogenic response. The Endoskeleton devices are the first FDA-cleared interbody devices to have nanotechnology.


 
EOS imaging system by EOS imaging. EOS delivers simultaneous frontal and lateral images of patients in the upright, weight-bearing position. The process takes less than 20 seconds for adults and less than 15 seconds for adolescents. The imaging system consists of two perpendicular X-ray beams aligned in two thin, horizontal beams as well as two detectors. The device adheres to "As Low As Reasonably Achievable" concept of radiation with its Nobel Prize-winning EOS technology.

 

ES2 Spinal System from Stryker. The ES2 minimally invasive fixation system is a one-piece low profile integrated blade screw that includes a built-in reduction. The system builds on Stryker's Xia technology with the buttress threaded closure mechanism, a cortical cancellous thread pattern and secure screw-to-screwdriver interface. The system has power and navigation capabilities.


 
EVEREST Minimally Invasive Spinal System from K2M. The cannulated top-loading polyaxial pedicle screw system, EVEREST MIS, can accommodate titanium and cobalt-chrome rods for two different diameters — 5.5 mm and 6 mm. The system has a dual lead optimized thread pattern provides faster insertion and increased pullout strength and 70 degrees polyaxial range of motion for intraoperative flexibility.

 

EXPEDIUM VIPER 2 System from DePuy Synthes. The VIPER 2 System is intended for noncervical pedicle fixation and nonpedicle fixation for degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, trauma, spinal stenosis, curvatures, tumor, pseudoarthritis and failed fusions. The system includes more than 30 comprehensive instruments for multiple pathologies.

 

EXPEDIUM VERSE SYSTEM from DePuy Synthes Spine. In October 2015, DePuy Synthes Spine launched its EXPEDIUM VERSE SYSTEM, an all-on-one pedicle screw system. Using the system, surgeons can perform multiple spinal correction maneuvers when conducting spinal fusion surgery with a single implant type. DePuy's device allows surgeons to decrease the number of screws necessary for a procedure, which may lower the risk of a screw pullout or migration compared to traditional screws. The EXPEDIUM Verse system is intended to be used with autograft and/or allograft.


 
FacetLINK from LinkSPINE. FacetLINK uses two screws and a plated cross-connector assembly to stabilize the spine following a tissue-sparing midline or micro-surgical decompression. There are several sizes for plate assemblies and an expandable version to accommodate multiple anatomical and pathological scenarios.

 

Harmonic OSTEOVUE Spine Soft Tissue Dissector from DePuy Synthes. The advanced energy device is specifically designed as an ultrasonic periosteal elevator for spine procedures. It is indicated for soft tissue incisions. The device simultaneously cuts and seals, spot coagulates and scrapes. The device operates on the Harmonic technology platform which delivers precise energy using ultrasonic vibration.

 

InterFuse from VTI. The InterFuse Interbody Fusion System is a modular interbody. It is a large footprint device that can be placed through a small unilateral access channel. The modules are placed one at a time and the devices lock into place in the disc space. The device can be placed through a tube system.


 
LONGBOW Expandable Lateral Spacer System from Life Spine. The system is the first interbody device on the market that expands laterally in-situ for a direct lateral approach. The device aims to simplify insertion of bone graft after expansion and may decrease retraction by as much as 45 percent compared to other lateral systems on the market. LONGBOW also aims to minimize tissue retraction and potential nerve damage associated with the lateral access approach.

 

Lucent MIS TLIF System from Spinal Elements. Lucent MIS TLIF is a tubular retractor system designed to provide maximum visibility and surgical versatility. Its radiolucent tubes allow visualization of surrounding anatomy. Exposure tubes come in different lengths and diameters to match most anatomical variations. Key instrumentation is bayonetted with anti-reflective coating to improve surgeon visibility. The interbody implant includes Spinal Elements' Ti-Bond porous titanium coating on a PEEK interbody, allowing the implant to retain the imaging and load distribution properties of PEEK while taking advantage of porous titanium's properties at the endplate surfaces.

 

Luna 3D Interbody Fusion System from Benvenue Medical. The system is an in-situ expandable PEEK-OPTIMA interbody implant that forms an ALIF footprint from a MIS posterior approach. Luna is indicated for spinal fusion procedures in adult patients with symptomatic degenerative disc disease at one or two contiguous levels from L2-S1. The device aims to provide anterior column stability, strength and fusion with minimal neural retraction. Luna features a generous graft window that allows bone grafting material to be inserted post-expansion.

 

MAGEC Spinal Bracing and Distraction System from Ellipse Technologies. The system is comprised of a sterile, single-use spinal rod that is surgically implanted in the patient. The system also includes a non-sterile hand-held external remote controller that is used to non-invasively lengthen or shorten the implanted rod. The rod is used to brace the spine during growth to minimize the progression of scoliosis. The system is designed for patients under 10 years with severe progressive spinal deformities.

 

Marquise MIS Channel System from Amendia. The Marquise MIS Channel System is designed for easy sagittal movement through paraspinal muscle planes and improved access to the surgical site. The system enables minimally invasive procedures on obese patients and was developed to accommodate multiple instruments simultaneously. The technology was designed to reduce muscle ischemia/necrosis/scarring and improves visibility while reducing glare.

 

Mitaka KestrelView II microscope from Mitaka USA. In 2014, Robert Masson MD, president of NeuroSpine Institute of Orlando, performed the first lumbar reconstruction and iMAS Reconstruction Procedure via the KestrelView. In collaboration with Mitaka USA and Max Sturgis, Mitaka USA's president, Dr. Masson devised the technology. The 3D microscope allows surgeons to use a full HD screen to maintain ergonomic posture throughout surgery. The device has magnifications between 300mm WD and 1,000 mm WD.

 

Mobi-C from LDR. The Mobi-C is the first and only cervical disc replacement device to receive FDA approval to treat both one-level and two-level cervical disc disease. It features bone sparing technology and doesn't require keels or screws for placement. The device is designed to eliminate bone chiseling. Mobi-C is comprised of two metal plates and a plastic insert in the middle. There have been more than 30,000 Mobi-C implantations in 25 countries.

 

Mercury MIS System from Spinal Elements. Mercury MIS is an innovative, simple and versatile tower-based pedicle screw system. It is designed to limit muscle and tissue damage through a minimally invasive approach while addressing the clinical needs of posterior fixation. The system includes multiple rod insertion options, built-in reduction capabilities and simple tower attachment and removal, accommodating both mini-open and true percutaneous approaches. The Mercury MIS System is a seamless, one tray add-on to the Mercury Classic pedicle screw system, enabling surgeons to use the same system for conventional or MIS techniques.

 

PediGuard from SpineGuard. Earlier this year, SpineGuard received FDA clearance to market its PediGuard products for minimally invasive surgery. PediGuard is a handheld device that alerts surgeons to potential pedicular or vertebral breaches. The device provides real-time feedback via audio and visual signals. Surgeons have performed more than 35,000 procedures with PediGuard worldwide. PediGuard detects 98 percent of pedicle breaches.


 
Phoenix Minimally Invasive Spinal Fixation System from Orthofix. The Phoenix Minimally Invasive Spinal Fixation System has a built-in reduction tower that is removed after implant construct assembly. The system is designed to reduce surgical steps and screw lengths ranging from 35 mm to 55 mm. The rod inserter allows for minimally invasive delivery without extra incisions.

 

ProMIS system from Premia Spine. The system can be used to perform a number of screw placement techniques, such as the Jamshidi technique and the K-Wireless Dilator technique. Surgeons can change between techniques intraoperatively based on the procedure. The system allows for a quicker procedure, less radiation exposure and more economical processing.

   

REVOLVE from Globus Medical. The REVOLVE is a posterior stabilization system for minimally invasive spine surgery. The system was designed to reduce surgery time and lessen anatomic disruption. The device has multi-level capability and non-threaded locking caps to avoid cross threading and difficult cap placement. This is a low-profile system with surgeons performing the reduction using one instrument with the cap pre-loaded, eliminating steps.

 

Revolution Spine System from Intelligent Implant Systems (IIS). The IIS lumbar implant kit includes the single-fusion plates and screws. The fully disposable instrument kit was developed in collaboration with IIS supplier ECA Medical Instruments. The Revolution spinal fusion kits are single-procedure, disposable products designed to simplify workflow and reduce infection due to cross contamination. ECA estimates hospitals and ASCs using Revolution could save more than $1,200 per procedure.

 

ROI-C Cervical Cage from LDR. The system designed for zero-profile, standalone anterior cervical interbody fusion. The cage accommodates integrated, self-guided, self-locking VerteBRIDGE plating designed to provide stability. The system features an inserter that protects anatomical structures. The cage is available in two sagittal profiles — anatomic and lordic. The device is also available in a variety of heights and footprints.

 

ROSA Spine by Medtech. The ROSA robotic device is intended to enhance safety and accuracy during spine procedures. With the device, surgeons can develop an intraoperative plan to define trajectories. The robot allows dynamic guidance, tracking the patient's movement in real time. It also mirrors a human arm's movement with six degrees of freedom. The robotic device aligns with surgeons' movements, so surgeons do not have to alter their techniques. Additionally, ROSA had a patented system that unites robotic movement with non-invasive laser measurements for patient registration.


 
Scorpion Articulating Inserter from Amedica. Developed for transforaminal lumbar interbody fusions, the Scorpion Articulating Inserter was released in October to accompany the Valeo II TL interbody fusion device system. The technology will aid in minimally invasive procedures and is indicated for use with autograft. They system is designed for greater control and accuracy for the silicon nitride interbody fusions.


 
SImmetry from Zyga Technologies. SImmetry is a device for minimally invasive sacroiliac joint dysfunction designed for fusion procedures. The technology is FDA-cleared and includes a range of threaded, cannulated implants and associated instrumentation. The implants are designed to transfix the sacrum and ilium for a stable bony fusion.


 
STALIF Integrated Interbody from Centinel Spine. Centinel Spine's STALIF device is designed to streamline complex surgical procedures and reduce surgical time with potential cost savings. The implants come in individually packed sterile packages with a reduced number of instrumentation trays. The implant has a no-profile design and was developed as a better match to the patient's anatomy.

 

SteriSpine PS Pedicle Screw System kits from Safe Orthopaedics. SteriSpine Kits include sterile implants and associated single-use surgical instruments designed for facilitating safer, lower-cost surgery. The kits are FDA-cleared and marketed in 16 countries. There have been more than 1,691 procedures using the kits since the beginning of 2015. A recent study showed the instrument kits reduced surgical time by 12 percent and there was minimal blood loss.

 

Stimwave Freedom-8A Spinal Cord Stimulation System from Stimwave. The fully-programmable SCS neuromodulation device received FDA clearance in 2015. The stimulator is implanted in an outpatient, minimally invasive procedure. The device delivers small pulses of energy to eight electrodes placed near surrounding nerves that triggers a reaction enabling the brain to remap specific pain signals. The device is designed to help patients manage chronic pain.

 

TYPHOON MI Transfacet Pedicular Screw from ChoiceSpine. The TYPHOON MI is designed for facet arthrodesis and posterior stabilization of the lumbar spine. The system has a lag section to facilitate facet joint decompression. The sharp threads through the cortical bone interfaces while minimizing damage. The dual pitch screw thread maximizes purchase and compression of the facet joint.

 

THUNDERBOLT Minimally Invasive Pedicle Screw System from ChoiceSpine. The system is intended as an adjunct to fusion for patients suffering from degenerative disc sidease, spondylolisthesis, trauma, spinal stenosis, deformities, tumor and pseudoarthrosis. The device features a tulip design and dovetail set screw, as well as user-friendly rod reduction. The system received FDA clearance in 2014.  

 

UniVise Spinous Process Fixation Plate System from Stryker. The minimally invasive system features a simple, one implant design that allows for midline insertion and locking. The system also features anatomically shaped plates. Each plate is designed with a radial spike pattern intended to improve positioning and grip. The system is compatible with a variety of bone grafting options within Stryker's biologics portfolio.

 

ViviGen Cellular Bone Matrix from DePuy Synthes. DePuy Synthes designed the device to repair or reconstruct musculoskeletal defects. Cryopreserved viable cortical cancellous bone matrix and demineralized bone compose the device. DePuy's device is a Human Cells, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-based Product. The device arrives in a cryopreservative solution containing Dimethyl Sulfoxide and Human Serum Albumin. ViviGen was first made available in March 2014.

 

Yeung Endoscopic Spine System from Richard Wolf Instrument Company. The system is used to perform selective endoscopic discectomy, a minimally invasive spine surgery technique that uses an endoscope to treat herniated, protruded, extruded or degenerative discs. The technique aims to lessen tissue destruction and postoperative pain as well as improve recovery times. The technique was developed by Anthony Yeung, MD, using the system developed in collaboration with with the Richard Wolf Instrument Company.
