Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Norah Foster of Duke University School of Medicine

Norah Foster, MD, is a spine surgeon and assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C.

SpineLine, the primary publication for North American Spine Society members, named Dr. Foster in its '20 Under 40' list of top spine surgeons for 2019.

She specializes in disc herniations, lumbar spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, spinal deformity, tumors and trauma.

Dr. Foster's research interests include assessing medical transport of spinal trauma patients, studying spinal alignment of patients with scoliosis and determining radiation exposure of imaging systems used during spine surgery.

She graduated from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City.

Following medical school, Dr. Foster completed a residency at Duke University Medical Center and a fellowship at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City.
