Spine surgeon leaders to know: Dr. Robert S Bray, Jr. of DISC Sports & Spine Center

Board-certified neurological spine surgeon, Robert S Bray, Jr., MD, is the founder of DISC Sports & Spine Center which has locations in Newport Beach and Marina del Rey, Calif.

A graduate of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Dr. Bray established DISC in 2006 after a successful period at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

While at CSMC he founded The Institute for Spinal Disorders. He also served as director of neurosurgery and head of the spinal programs at St. John's Medical Center in Jackson, Wyo., Century City Hospital in Los Angeles and the now defunct Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, Calif.

Dr. Bray specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery and has performed over 10,000 successful surgeries.

In 2009, Dr. Bray discovered thoracic epidural arteriovenous malformation disease, which is a debilitating condition that primarily affects young women.

He developed a new imaging protocol with Mink Radiology to distinguish the disease and currently performs outpatient procedures that help reverse the severe upper back pain and loss of lower limb function that previously led to paralysis.
