Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Ammar Hawasli of Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Ammar H. Hawasli, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon at St. Louis-based Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Specializing in spine surgery, Dr. Hawasli serves as an assistant neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. At the medical school, he runs a functional spinal neurosurgery research laboratory studying brain physiology and connectivity in spinal disorder patients.

Dr. Hawasli received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he also earned a doctorate in neuroscience. He underwent spine surgery fellowship training at Washington University School of Medicine.
