Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. James Kang of Brigham and Women's Hospital

James D. Kang, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and chairman of the orthopedic surgery department at Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital.

His interests include minimally invasive and revision spine surgery.

Dr. Kang received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City and underwent spine surgery fellowship training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He is a leader in the research and treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration. Dr. Kang served as the 2015 president of The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine.
