Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. John Lipani of Princeton Neurological Surgery

John D. Lipani, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and the founding director of Princeton Neurological Surgery in Hamilton Township, N.J.

Dr. Lipani is also the founder of Hamilton Township-based JD Lipani Radiosurgery Institute, the first dedicated institute for non-invasive neurosurgery in the U.S. He currently serves as a clinical assistant professor of neurological surgery at Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

He received his medical degree from the Tel Aviv University Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Israel and underwent complex spinal surgery fellowship training at NYU Langone's Tisch Hospital in New York City. Dr. Lipani also completed CyberKnife radiosurgery and neurosurgical oncology fellowship training at Stanford (Calif.) University Medical Center and Stanford Cancer Institute in Palo Alto, Calif.

Dr. Lipani has performed over 4,000 brain and spine radiosurgery cases. He performs invasive and minimally invasive spinal surgery, and his research has been published in a variety of scientific journals. Dr. Lipani holds U.S. patents involving the use of neurostimulation for the treatment of chronic discogenic back pain.
