7 places bolstering orthopedic robotics in August

Becker's reported on seven hospitals, practices and ASCs that added orthopedic robots in August.

1. Atlanta-based USPI affiliate Resurgens Surgical Center added Stryker's Mako SmartRobotics system to its practice to assist with joint replacements.

2. NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst acquired the Stryker Mako SmartRobotics system, which allows the hospital to offer its patients a minimally invasive option for hip and knee replacements. 

3. Columbus (Ind.) Specialty Surgery Center performed the region's first outpatient robotic joint replacement surgery.

4. Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., added an orthopedic surgical robot to its team, expanding its robotic surgery program.

5. Salem, Va.-based LewisGale Medical Center's orthopedic surgeon Phillip Patterson, MD, performed the region's first robotic total knee replacement.

6. Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute added two total joint replacement robots at its ASCs.

7. HCA Florida Mercy Hospital in Miami became one of the first in the state to offer Stryker Mako robotic-arm assisted total hip replacements.
