Globus Medical's new imaging system, Excelsius3D, had a strong start since it debuted this year, and it is expected to grow in 2022, according to an Aug. 4 second-quarter earnings call.

The platform debuted in May, and Excelsius3D was used in more than 150 procedures in the second quarter, Dan Scavilla, Globus Medical's executive vice president, chief commercial officer and president of the trauma unit said.

"Market interest is high for state-of-the-art technology, and customer orders continue to grow," Mr. Scavilla said, as transcribed by The Motley Fool. "Excelsius3D is positioned to be a major growth driver for us as we continue to penetrate the market."

Mr. Scavilla also discussed Globus Medical's position in the growing spine robotics market.

"I think the benefit there for us is having started with a blank sheet and [designing] them up," he said. "We would think that not only is the technology more advanced and the outcome is better for you as far as the images that can be taken or the options that are out there, but loading that data into your planning packages will be much better — much more of a benefit than where I think competition currently is."
