As Medtronic vies for spine market share, Louisiana hospital adds Globus robot

West Monroe, La.-based Glenwood Regional Medical Center purchased an ExcelsiusGPS, according to The News Star.

What you should know:

1. The ExcelsiusGPS is a robotic navigation platform designed to improve safety and accuracy in spinal surgery by enhancing physicians' visualization.

2. The technology may be used to treat patients requiring screws in procedures such as posterior fusion, anterior lumbar interbody fusion, lateral lumbar interbody fusion, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion and posterior lumbar interbody fusion.

3. Globus Medical is the medical device company behind ExcelsiusGPS. Medtronic, a competing device company, is aiming to capture more of Globus' share in the spine surgery market, Medtronic CEO Geoff Martha said in a Sept. 14 interview with Morgan Stanley's David Lewis.
