Xenex Disinfection Services is reportedly the first company to prove that its robot can sterilize a room of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, according to The Rivard Report.

Five things to know:

1. The San Antonio-based company demonstrated that its LightStrike germ-zapping robot can kill the virus in a room in under two minutes.

2. The robot disarms the virus with pulsating xenon lamps that create high-intensity germicidal light, which kills viruses and bacteria.

3. The robot costs about $100,000 and is typically used to disinfect ORs between surgical cases.

4. Since the pandemic, Xenex’s sales have increased by 600 percent, a Xenex spokeswoman told The Rivard Report.

5. Xenex has sold more than 70 robots to U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs hospitals and 10 to U.S. Defense Department facilities.
