Douglas Blaty, DO, has performed about 40 spinal surgeries with a robotic-assisted device called an exoscope, according to The Spokesman-Review.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Blaty is a spine surgeon with Inland Northwest Spine & Neurosurgery in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.

2. The exoscope is a type of microscope designed by Synaptive Medical.

3. The device generates high-definition images while mounted on a robotic arm that tracks the surgeon's instruments.
