An Arizona hospital just surpassed 5K+ robotic surgeries — 5 insights on the program

Robotics

Surgeons at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus have performed over 5,000 robot-assisted surgical procedures, with more than 1,000 in 2019 alone, according to AZ Big Media.

Five things to know about the Glendale, Ariz.-based hospital's robotics program:

1. Surgeons at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus have access to the Navio Surgical System, as well as three da Vinci Surgical System robots.

2. The daVinci is used for procedures such as gynecology, urology, cancer and hernia repair, and the Navio is used for partial and total knee replacements.

3. With the technology, procedures traditionally done with a large incision can now be completed with incisions that are less than an inch, according to gynecologic oncology surgeon Dennis Scribner, MD.

4. Surgeons from other hospitals travel to Abrazo Arrowhead Campus to receive education and training on robot-assisted surgery techniques.

5. The hospital also houses Abrazo Health's General Surgery Residency Program.
