Here are 10 orthopedic surgeons to know:

1. Hasham Alvi, MD. Barrington (Ill.) Orthopedic Specialists: Dr. Alvi specializes in minimally invasive primary and revision joint replacement. He recently performed the first U.S. case with Exactech's Spartan stem and Logical cup system.

2. George Cautilli, MD. Cautilli Orthopaedics (Yardley, Pa.): Dr. Cautilli is the medical director of the Center for Joint Replacement at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa. He was among the first surgeons in the country to help perfect custom fit total knee replacements using computer modeling and has performed over 1,200 of these procedures.

3. James Chappuis, MD. Spine Center Atlanta: Dr. Chappuis is the senior orthopedic spine surgeon and CEO of Spine Center Atlanta. He is a clinical instructor at Georgia Regents University in Augusta and has served in various leadership roles at several hospitals.

4. Daniel Dunaway, MD. Kettering (Ohio) Health: Dr. Dunaway is a member of the Dayton Orthopedic Society and the Ohio Orthopedic Society. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a team physician for the Dayton Dragons Minor League Baseball team. He specializes in total joint replacement and sports medicine.

5. Eddie El-Yussif, DO. (Chesterfield, Mich.): Dr. El-Yussif is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has previously served as chair and co-medical director of the orthopedics at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Charter Township, Mich. 

6. Jason Hunt, DO. OrthoLinks (Tampa, Fla.): Dr. Hunt is a published author who has presented osteopathic and orthopedic surgery research at annual conferences nationwide. He is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

7. Henry Leis, MD. Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists (Biloxi, Miss.): Dr. Leis specializes in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery as well as general orthopedics. He has won several awards during his career, including the U.S. Air Force Surgeon General’s Award for Outstanding Resident Research.

9. Christopher Nanson, MD. Orthopedics Northwest (Tigard, Ore.): Dr. Nanson specializes in the direct anterior approach for hip replacement surgery. He is also trained in robotic-assisted Mako partial knee resurfacing and total knee and hip replacements. He is affiliated with several medical organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
