Dr. Neal ElAttrache to perform season-ending surgery on Dodgers pitcher

Orthopedic

L.A. Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler will undergo an elbow surgery next week, performed by Neal ElAttrache, MD, that will end his baseball season, according to an Aug. 15 report from the Los Angeles Times.

Mr. Buehler has a flexor tendon strain in his right elbow after injuring it during a game in June, and had hoped to return for the postseason. But after an MRI last week, Dr. ElAttrache, the team's head physician, recommended surgery.

"Whatever Dr. ElAttrache saw, he felt that the best course of action was to go back in, to get surgery, to really figure out what the problem is [and] fix it," Dave Roberts, the Dodgers' manager, told the Times.

"Just looking at the calendar, I’m sure it will have some impact [on next season]. But I’m very hesitant to give a timeline," Mr. Roberts added. "I expect to get more information once they get in on what the diagnosis was and what they did to repair whatever part of the elbow. But as far as right now, that’s all we have."
