6 3D printing developments in spine, orthopedics

From printed casts to implants, 3D printing is offering spine and orthopedic surgeons new ways to create solutions for their patients.

Six developments in 3D printing this year: 

1. ActivArmor teamed up with a 3D printer to create waterproof, plastic custom printed casts. 

2. Onkos Surgical received FDA clearance for its 3D pelvic reconstruction system. 

3. Orthofix Medical partnered with a 3D printing service to create 3D printed pelvic fixation devices for patients with hip dislocation. 

4. A Wyoming orthopedic surgeon partnered with Conformis to create 3D hip and knee implants. 

5. Fuse Medical and Oxford Performance Materials teamed up to develop spine and orthopedic implants with the OsteoFab proprietary technology. 

6. DeGen Medical launched the first 3D-printed spinal implant made with Puri-Ti technology.
