8 orthopedic research projects get $445K total in grants

The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation gave a total $445,000 in grants to eight researchers.

The investigators and their sponsoring institutions received $5,000 to $250,000 each, according to a July 11 news release. Applications were reviewed and scored by scientists and clinician scientists.

The principal investigators and their projects are:

1. Kyle Duchman, MD, for "Platelet Rich Plasma for Osteoarthritis: Role of Exosomes in Effectiveness"

2. Muhammad Farooq Rai, PhD, for "KLF10 as a Novel Therapeutic Target in Osteoarthritis"

3. Cecilia Pascual Garrido, MD, PhD, for "Epigenetic Regulation of Key Molecular Players in the Progression of Hip OA"

4. Paul Courtney, MD, for "Impact of Prior Authorization of Patient Care and Outcomes in Orthopaedics"

5. Aaron Hoyt, MD, for "In Vitro Thermal Stability of Dalbavancin in PMMA Cement"

6. David Liu, MD, for "Value of Vitamin D in Prevention and Treatment of Pediatric Fractures"

7. Arakua Welbeck, MD, for "Wearable Sensors to Measure Function after Brachial Plexus Reconstruction"

8. Brian Yang, MD, for "Tenodesis Effect as a Diagnostic Test to Detect Occult Dorsal Ganglion Cyst"
