PrecisionOS, Siemens Healthineers partner on VR orthopedic surgical training

Siemens Healthineers has partnered with virtual reality surgical training provider PrecisionOS Technology to provide surgeons with virtual reality training to practice using Siemens Healthineers' mobile 3D C-arm Cios Spin, which provides surgical workflow guidance and ensures precision in surgery procedures.

Surgeons use the device to practice operating on virtual patients using multi-user, peer-to-peer training sessions that strengthen surgeon/technician collaboration. It was proven to increase surgery safety in a case report in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Global Research & Reviews published in November 2021.

"PrecisionOS' VR software allows for surgeons to practice and behave authentically as well as collaboratively in a hyper-realistic environment," Janine Weidling, global head of education services advanced therapies at Siemens Healthineers, said in a May 24 PrecisionOS news release. "This increases the quality of procedure- and imaging-related skills for the users and provides them with more certainty, especially in demanding surgical cases."

PrecisionOS has collaborative affiliations with more than 50 major medical institutions in the U.S. and Canada, and the company's technology platform is being used in more than 50 countries globally.
