The orthopedics industry has been filled with innovation and milestones during the last 30 days.
Eight notes:
1. Summit Surgery Center in Santa Barbara, Calif., performed its first bridge-enhanced ACL restoration, becoming one of the first centers on the West Coast to add the procedure.
2. Louis Gerstenfeld, PhD, a professor of orthopedic surgery at the Boston University School of Medicine, earned the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Orthopedic Research Society International Section of Fracture Repair.
3. Surgalign Holdings' Holo Portal, the first artificial intelligence-driven augmented reality guidance system for spine surgery, received FDA 510(k) clearance.
4. The first 3D-printed anterior cervical plate was cleared by the FDA and launched.
5. Chris Valois joined Stimwave Technologies as its first chief marketing and strategy officer.
6. NuVasive's Attrax Putty became the first synthetic biologic cleared by the FDA for use in interbody fusions of the thoracolumbar spine.
7. Statesville, N.C.-based Iredell Health System became the first hospital in Iredell County to add Stryker's Mako robot for total joint replacements.
8. Mark McFarland, DO, performed the first surgery with the Globus Sable expandable lumbar interbody cage in the Virginia peninsula at Newport News, Va.-based Mercy Mary Immaculate Hospital.
