Orthopedic surgery returns to Massachusetts hospital after 1-year absence

Orthopedic

Baystate Franklin Medical Center, an 89-bed community hospital in Greenfield, Mass., has resumed orthopedic surgery after almost one year without the service, the Greenfield Recorder reported Nov. 28.

Colin Cooper, MD, has joined the hospital's medical staff as part of Springfield, Mass.-based New England Orthopedic Surgeons' expansion into the region. He is a sports medicine surgeon specializing in orthopedic trauma and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, hip and shoulder.

Most of Dr. Cooper's surgeries will be done on an outpatient basis, but some patients may require an overnight stay, according to the report.

He is performing surgeries at the hospital's new surgery center and seeing patients at his office in Northampton, Mass.

"Musculoskeletal pain can be debilitating and prevent patients from doing the activities they enjoy or that are required for their occupation," Dr. Cooper said in a news release. "I look forward to offering my patients both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options to reduce their pain and get them back as quickly and safely as possible."
