Orthopedic surgeon named director for clinical affairs at Kaiser Permanente's medical school

Ronald Navarro, MD, assumed the role of director for clinical affairs at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine in Pasadena, Calif., on Feb. 1.

Dr. Navarro is responsible for overseeing the logistics of student clinical education, including policies and procedures for establishing a positive learning environment and ensuring the school is in compliance with accreditation standards. He will also oversee clinical programs as needed.

Dr. Navarro is also regional orthopedic surgery chief at Kaiser, responsible for more than 200 orthopedic surgeons across 13 medical centers. He was instrumental in helping the group transition more than 80 percent of total joint replacements to the outpatient setting.

Previously, Dr. Navarro was the regional assistant medical director of business management for retail strategy for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 1997 as a practicing orthopedist and sports medicine physician. He later became a partner in the group and then chief of orthopedic surgery at South Bay Medical Center.
