Here are six orthopedic surgeons making headlines this week.

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery hired Massachusetts General Hospital Chief of Sports Medicine Peter Asnis, MD, to lead the medical team at its campus in Florida. Dr. Asnis previously served as head team physician and medical director for the Boston Bruins, head team orthopedic surgeon for the Boston Red Sox and team physician for the New England Patriots.

John Kennedy, MD, of New York City-based NYU Langone Health, is being sued by his former office manager, who alleges he hired a private detective to follow her and had her falsely arrested and charged with grand larceny. The office manager is accused of writing herself a $12,000 bonus check and embezzling more than $100,000 from Dr. Kennedy's private practice. She denies the allegations.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed Bryan Little, MD, to the Michigan Board of Medicine and the Michigan Task Force on Physician's Assistants. Dr. Little is an orthopedic surgeon with Wayne State University in Detroit and specialist-in-chief of orthopedic surgery at Detroit Medical Center.

Milwaukee-based Agnesian HealthCare and its physician group will pay $10 million to settle a whistleblower suit brought by Clark Searle, MD, alleging the health system paid kickbacks and other financial incentives for patient referrals. Dr. Searle alleged that Agnesian adjusted pay based on the physician's specialty referrals to the health system's hospitals, services and other facilities. Agnesian denies claims in the lawsuit.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recognized Dana Covey, MD, with its highest honor for his contributions to the orthopedic community and its patients and/or the American public. Dr. Covey served in the U.S. Navy for more than 40 years, where he was deployed 10 times and retired at the rank of captain.

Stephen Snow, MD, is retiring from Olympia (Wash.) Orthopaedic Associates after almost 30 years of practice. Dr. Snow is beginning to refer patients to Darren Trask, MD. His retirement is part of OOA's plan to ensure more young physicians will be able to buy into the practice.
