Drs. Knute Buehler, Richard Ferkel & more: 6 orthopedic surgeons making headlines

Here are six orthopedic surgeons making the news this week. 

Knute Buehler, MD, announced that he will run for the U.S. House of Representatives to replace Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore. Dr. Buehler specializes in hip and knee surgery at Bend, Ore.-based The Center: Orthopedic & Neurosurgery Care and Research.

The medical staff at Rock Springs, Wyo.-based Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County elected Jacques Denker, DO, as secretary for 2020. Dr. Denker specializes in joint preservation and reconstruction techniques.

Theresa Lynn Colosi, MD, was arrested in Whitefish, Mont., on attempted murder and child kidnapping charges. Dr. Colosi is accused of assaulting a court supervisor during her child visitation and attempting to kidnap her child in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Kevin Farmer, MD, an associate professor at the University of Florida Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in Gainesville, spoke to Becker's Spine Review about where he sees orthopedics going in 2020.

Orthopedic surgeon Martin O'Malley, MD, operated on the left foot of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who will miss the rest of the season, to fix a Lisfranc injury.

Richard Ferkel, MD, of Van Nuys-based Southern California Orthopedic Institute, repaired the ruptured Achilles tendon of Portland Trailblazers forward Rodney Hood. Mr. Hood will miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
