Four orthopedic surgeons from the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society performed surgery on patients with lower extremity deformities in a medical mission in Kenya.

The foot and ankle surgeons included Daniel Farber, MD, Eric Gokcen, MD, Aaron Guyer, MD, and Ariel Palanca, MD.

The medical mission was an extension of the AOFAS Outreach Project to Vietnam, which provided aid to underserved parts of the country for almost 20 years.

The surgeons also gave educational presentations on foot and ankle surgery at the AIC CURE Kenya Hospital and the Kijabe Mission Hospital.

AOFAS volunteers performed over 1,500 surgeries on Vietnamese patients since 2002 and Kenya — a country with less than 100 orthopedic surgeons — has been selected as a second site for humanitarian outreach.
