International Triathlon Union Hall of Fame inducts Drs. Douglas Hiller, Sergio Migliorini

Orthopedic surgeon Douglas Hiller, MD, and sports medicine specialist Sergio Migliorini, MD, were recently inducted into the International Triathlon Union Hall of Fame.

Four things to know:

1. Dr. Hiller was chair of the ITU's medical committee from 1994 to 2008, with Dr. Migliorini succeeding him after that period.

2. The ITU's Michel Gignoux Award was presented to both physicians in late August in recognition for their contribution to the sport of triathlon.

3. Dr. Hiller treats and studies orthopedic and sports-related injuries. He is a specialist in endurance sports, their physiological effects and ramifications and has done extensive research on athletes and the effects of fluid intake during races.

4. Dr. Migliorini specializes in physical and rehabilitation medicine and served on the medical delegate for the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, as well as presiding over the ITU medical and anti-coping committee since 2008.
