New Jersey orthopedic practice offers elbow UCL reconstruction — 4 things to know

Orthopedic

Landa Spine & Orthopedic Center in Old Bridge, N.J., is offering elbow ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, reports Digital Journal.

Four things to know:

1. UCL reconstruction, commonly known as Tommy John surgery, replaces a torn UCL in the elbow with a tendon from another area of the body.

2. The surgery seeks to reduce or eliminate pain, stabilize the elbow and restore motion.

3. Reconstruction involves drilling holes in the humerus and ulna to secure the graft. Parts of the old ligament may be attached to the new ligament to help strengthen it.

4. The surgery lasts 60 to 90 minutes and is typically performed in an outpatient setting.
