Here are nine orthopedic surgeons making the news this week.

Orthopedic surgeon Thomas Parisi, MD, of The Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin in Franklin met a patient at a private Mexican hospital to perform a total knee replacement. He is one of roughly 40 U.S. orthopedic surgeons collaborating with Denver-based North American Specialty Hospital to travel to Galenia Hospital in Cancun to perform orthopedic procedures.

Orthopedic surgeons Christina Kane, MD, and Ashley Miller, MD, joined Berkshire Orthopaedic Associates in Pittsfield, Mass. Drs. Kane and Miller will provide care at the Pittsfield facility and Dr. Kane will also provide services at the North Adams, Mass., location.

Heather Melton, MD, joined Franklin, Tenn.-based AdvancedHealth. Dr. Melton is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine and previously practiced at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, Tennessee.

James Andrews, MD, injected platelet-rich plasma into the left elbow of Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale. Dr. Andrews confirmed that Mr. Sale had elbow inflammation and recommended a conservative treatment approach. The Red Sox shut Mr. Sale down for the rest of the 2019 season and Dr. Andrews will reevaluate him in six weeks.

Davenport, Iowa-based Orthopaedic Specialists is adding Kristyn Darmafall, MD, and Megan Crosmer, MD, to its team. Dr. Darmafall will begin practicing at Orthopaedic Specialists on Sept. 16 and Dr. Crosmer will begin Oct. 2. They will perform outpatient procedures at the adjacent Mississippi Valley Surgery Center.

Santa Barbara-based Alta Orthopaedics added Eli Kupperman, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Kupperman is a sports medicine specialist who treats musculoskeletal conditions as a result of injury, overuse and arthritis. He specializes in arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques.

Alfred Moretz III, MD, joined Rome (N.Y.) Medical Practice Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Moretz has over 40 years of practice experience. He earned his medical degree from Atlanta-based Emory University and completed his orthopedic residency at what is now known as OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
