Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Henry Hood dies

Orthopedic surgeon Henry Hood, MD, of Lancaster, Ohio, died at age 79, reports Lancaster Eagle-Gazette.

Dr. Hood was an orthopedic surgeon who worked with International Medical Corps and volunteered overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia among other countries.

He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Akron (Ohio) City Hospital.

"Henry Hood was a pillar of the community," Mayor of Lancaster David Scheffler said, according to the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette. "He worked quietly behind the scenes on any number of projects and causes for the betterment of the community and its citizens. His ideas, initiative and counsel will be sorely missed."
