Fellowship-trained podiatric surgeon Jennifer A. D'Amico, DPM, has completed her eight medical volunteering mission through Healing the Children, a charitable organization focused on helping underserved children across the globe.

Dr. D'Amico of Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates in Torrington, Conn., offered her expertise in Nepal Orthopedic Hospital in Kathmandu, India, where she provided free medical and surgical coverage for local adult and pediatric patients.

Dr. D'Amico and her team screened 109 patients, provided 12 patients with custom braces, delivered 15 injections for pain relief and performed over 50 surgeries on 20 patients.

Most of the surgeries related to common conditions, such as traumatic injuries, clubfoot and other foot deformities.

In order to offer free care to patients, donors and volunteers funded the cost of travel as well as all medical and surgical expenses, including anesthetics, medications, labs and imaging studies.

Dr. D'Amico specializes in the treatment of injuries and conditions of the lower extremity, including arthritis, flatfoot, fracture care, pediatric foot and ankle deformities, trauma and wound care.
