3 reasons patient positioning is crucial for orthopedic surgery in ASCs

Orthopedic

As 85 percent of all procedures are expected to take place in the outpatient setting by 2028, it's important for ASC surgeons to carefully position patients, according to Mizuho OSI's Greg Neukirch, who wrote an article published in ASC Focus.

Three reasons positioning is crucial:

1. Better patient positioning reduces the risk of complications
2. Proper positioning enables surgeons to quickly and easily access necessary areas
3. The anterior approach for hip replacement requires specific positioning for successful outcomes

Andrew Wickline, MD, of New Hartford, N.Y.-based Genesee Orthopedics & Plastic Surgery Associates said he began performing anterior hip procedures in 2007 and now uses the Mizuho OSI Hana table to perform 99 percent of hip procedures through the direct anterior approach.
